Steve Meadows serves as the KHSSL Executive Director and runs the day-to-day operations of the Kentucky High School Speech League. He serves as the director of the three state tournaments as well as the League’s representative as needed.
Before taking on this role, Meadows coached Kentucky high school speech and debate teams for 28 years. His team at Danville High School won nine state speech titles and a state debate title over the years, and he coached fifty-seven state champions at both Beechwood and Danville High Schools. Mr. Meadows is the founder of SPEAK and a member of the National Speech and Debate Association’s and Kentucky High School Speech League’s Halls of Fame. He was the National Communication Association’s K-12 National Teacher of the Year, the NSDA’s first Kentucky Teacher of the Year, and was awarded the Ralph E. Carey Award for Distinguished Career Service by the NSDA. He remains active with the NSDA as a member of the Kentucky District Committee and as the Co-Chair for Speech Tabulations at the NSDA National Tournament each year. He is a member of the KCFL Board of Directors and the Special Assistant to the Directors in KESDA tabulations each year.
